Franken fran updates
How do they tie it all together? This is lazy. The manga tries to hard to be a part of the Horror manga, but it comes up short. Do the jokes hit? In my opinion they were stale and hurt the manga more than it helped. Regardless, as time went on the manga lost focus and instead just felt like a poor attempt at comedy instead of horror.
In the first chapter, Fran is asked to save a girl who was hit by a passing van. She agrees, only because she believes love could blossom. So she puts the girl in a temporary Caterpillar body. Long story short, the girl goes through a transformation and gets her body back.
Thanks to the efforts of the boy who stood by her, feelings did bloom and they do the totally logical move. They rent a love hotel and plan to just go the whole way around the bases. These two have never once dated and originally the girl hated the boy but, that aside, the next image is pretty gruesome. Thanks to the procedure, some of the DNA of the bug was still present in the girl and she changes into a monster who feeds off the boy.
Not to mention that the final line just feels so tongue and cheek. A lot of the problems can also be traced to the cast, mainly Fran. Fran is not a good or interesting character. She is full of flaws, but none of them are endearing. Going back to Frankenstein, he was a flawed character. Frankenstein wanted to explore the path less traveled.
It all works. Fran is not like this. She creates and destroys, and instead of learning and growing as a scientist, she just continues down a slow and painfully boring path. People die before her eyes from the things she brings to life and she just stares with no emotion in her eyes. When families die to her mascots she does nothing, feels nothing.
Some times she holds no weight in her own story. While still not an amazing character she at least makes a change in terms of her character. Though Fran makes it so she serves as her bodyguard. The actual human characters are either extremely dense, or psychotic in their own specific ways. Everyone just feels disconnected from the story to try and present a horror element.
The best example of this is the sentinels I mentioned before. At the end of the manga there are a total of four main sentinels. Each with their own dysfunctional personality. Lastly 4 is made to assist 3 by dying over and over so 3 can have a non-stop reason to exact revenge. It just drags on and gets worse. They just seem like a poor attempt at a slap stick comedy routine that can never deliver a working punch line.
If they appeared for four consecutive chapters it might be a different story, but the structure of the manga makes for a much more suffering experience. There are so many chapters and pages that feel out of place.
The image above comes from a chapter in the first volume of the manga. The mangaka is wasting no time in showing the absurdly dumb. What about these students makes this frightening?
Nothing screams scary or horror. The most horrifying thing about this chapter was the fact that not a single parent questioned and feared for their childs well being. Overall I give Franken Fran a 3 out of I saw potential in areas of the manga, but a lot of this was missed. The first volume was a stepping stone that led to nothing. The story is structured so poorly and written just as badly. There is nothing saving this manga. I personally do not recommend Franken Fran. This review was not necessarily last minute, but there were other things in the back log I could have reviewed.
However, I just felt I needed something for the Halloween season. I wanted to do a quick update as to why that is. If you want to know why I was gone, then use the link below to my wordpress. I am back, and will be posting on the blog again.
Also know, that posts on here will be smaller. I still plan to do said reviews, some time in the foreseeable future; however, there are some things regarding this blog that need to happen.
This seems like a normal thing to maintain but, for me, I find that having this schedule only serves as an excuse for me to be lazy.
At the end of the day, there were plenty of times where I just felt like doing nothing. From here on out, I will not be scheduling reviews, or saying exactly what reviews are next. Only I will know what I post from now on; this, hopefully, will keep my options open, and allow me to be more flexible with things to better maintain the blog on top of other things.
This is also changing because I need to start writing more and not stop at one post per week like I did once before. If I want to make something out of this blog, I need to start putting more focus in quantity and quality together as a whole. Second, The blog may still be placed in a slow state moving forward.
My studies need to be as focused as humanly possible and, on top of that, I need to make sure my health is in the best shape possible before I April comes around. I hope you readers, both present and future, understand and stick with me moving forward.
During the tail end of November, and the first two weeks of December, I was reaching the end of the semester for school. So, I decided to distance myself from the blog until my finals were done. That aside, lets get things moving again. The reviews for the month of December are the following:. Franken Fran Wiki Explore. Plot Relationships. Disease Animal Operation.
